Education & training

Building expertise in brain FDG-PET

Practical, clinically oriented education for healthcare professionals, from fundamental principles to advanced pattern recognition and complex clinical cases.

From fundamentals to expert interpretation

Learning that follows clinical practice

Accurate interpretation requires more than recognising a small number of characteristic disease patterns. Teaching combines practical instruction with case-based learning and real-world diagnostic challenges.

Foundations

Physiology, patient preparation and acquisition, normal metabolic distribution, systematic visual interpretation, quantitative analysis and principal disease patterns.

Advanced interpretation

Early and subtle abnormalities, atypical and asymmetric presentations, overlap, atrophy, comorbidity and appropriate use of quantitative analysis.

Complex case-based learning

Progressive clinical and imaging information is used to formulate and refine the differential diagnosis in a format that mirrors real reporting practice.

Teaching topics

Molecular brain imaging in context

Brain FDG-PET acquisition, processing and interpretation

Quantitative analysis and pitfalls

Alzheimer disease and atypical variants

FTD and primary progressive aphasia

Dementia with Lewy bodies

PSP and corticobasal disorders

DAT-SPECT

Amyloid and tau PET

Alternative diagnoses and causes of global brain dysfunction
Limbic encephalitis, Korsakoff syndrome, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, traumatic brain injury, encephalopathies and chronic OSAS.

Beyond individual courses

Developing and sharing expertise

Increasing access to brain FDG-PET is only useful if sufficient expertise is available to interpret examinations reliably. Education can support professionals in progressing from basic interpretation towards greater independence and confidence in complex cases, while supporting wider collaboration and consistency between institutions.
